Potato Pizza pie

It will come as no surprise that I've been working longer hours than usual preparing for the ACC show this weekend. A certain two year old I know, though, is none too pleased about it.

And as excited as I am about the show, hearing Pepita tell me to put away my work kills me just a little. On Monday I am all about potato (Play doh) pizza pies. Freakin delicious.

Hello Craft Episode 8: American Craft Council Baltimore

I must admit that when Tina Seamonster asked me to contribute to the Hello Craft Podcast series, I had to freak out a little. Talking on answering machines is one of my big fears. I know, it sounds weird, but I so need to actually see the person I'm talking to, otherwise it feels like I'm just talking to myself.

I literally forced myself to speak, but I'm so glad I did. Thank you, Hello Craft, for the opportunity to share our story!

Waste NOT

According to the EPA Office of Solid Waste, Americans throw away more than 68 pounds of clothing and textiles per person per year, and clothing and other textiles represent about 4% of the municipal solid waste.
from Environmental Health Perspectives

I feel so lucky to have found a supplier of beautiful, soft organic cotton that is milled in the United States. I am confident that it is a responsible choice. Still, I am committed to sewing with recycled fabrics. I am so pleased with this new batch of Spot-on Dottie dresses I've been sewing for the ACC show. They are all so colorful. Each one, a surprise.

Over the past year and a half, I've collected quite a bit of scraps and it'll soon be time to use them up. There are many scarves in my future, and maybe a quilt or two. But, I'd like to try something new and really challenge myself, too. I am so ready to brainstorm. And reclaim a couple storage bins.

Sleep

Right now, this is the best we can hope for. If it takes less than an hour to get our resistant toddler to fall asleep, and we are able to sneak away from her without waking her up, then we can celebrate for an hour or two by getting some work done or watching old episodes of the X-Files.

We're hoping a big girl bed solve all our sleep problems. Or at least serve as a beautiful indoor jungle gym if it's gonna be abandoned at night.

In the Week of Valentine's Day...

I am officially a real mom. Rice Krispy treats are made (with whole grain cereal instead of rice, and dried strawberries for the illusion of nutrition) and ready for Pepita's very first Valentine's Day party. A dozen valentines have been carefully crafted and glitter is permanently stuck in the crevices of our dining room table.

Actually, I suspect that glitter is a permanent fixture in the dining room now. We all look like sparkly party girls. Even Godfrey. Even Jake.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Candy

Sometimes the pinheads look like cake decorations to me. Those multicolored confections that are sweet and tiny and crunchy.

And if I let my focus go soft as I stare at my pile of work, the fabric and pins become cotton candy and the blur of the boardwalk treat vendors. I miss Summer.

It's Good to be Awake

Godfrey was not surprised by my dream last night. It was probably inspired by the neti pot I was looking at in line at the drug store. I want to want to use one for my allergies. After all, nothing else seems to help. I don't even understand why I'm having allergy problems right now. I mean, it's snowing. It's just ridiculous.

I won't use a neti pot because it seems too much like drowning to me, and after drowning a little bit in Puerto Escondido, I can't bring myself to voluntarily force water up my nose.

In my dream I was in the ocean far, far out. Too far to swim back easily. It was not dramatic, and as I told my husband all about it, he asked, "Do you ever dream anything good?"

Hmmmm. I also dreamed I was outside all bundled up and a man asked me what the significance of my hat and scarf was. I told him that the hat keeps my head warm. And my mom made my scarf. So, yeah, at least there's that.
